Millions travel to Disney's "Montana"

 Disney Channel saw a strong sampling Friday for the premiere of its new series "Hannah Montana," about a regular 14-year-old girl who lives a fabulous nocturnal existence as a famous pop star. "Montana" scored the network's best numbers for series programming in households, kids 6-11 and tweens 9-14 in its 9:30 p.m. debut. All in all, the episode drew 5.4 million total viewers.

 The highest ratings ever for a Disney Channel series were scored by the live-action comedy "Hannah Montana" on Friday, March 24 (9:30 p.m.). The premiere posted the Disney Channel's best ever ratings for a series in Households (4.5 / 3,938,000), Kids 6-11 (12.0 / 2,340,000) and Tweens 9-14 (11.5 / 2,324,000).  MediaVillage junior correspondent Maya Motavalli recently interviewed Miley Cyrus in New York City. Primed not so much by Disney's press department as by the advance promotion for Hannah Montana on the network and Disney's Web site, Maya was anxious to learn as much as she could about Miley Cyrus, Miley Stewart and Hannah Montana. Miley was getting her first real taste of the interview circuit and was flustered by the "strange" questions from a journalist she had just spoken with, several of them about her "favorite cheese." Spawn of Cyrus making big waves

 Detroit News: Now that Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan and Hilary Duff are all nearing retirement age, it's time to make room for a new teen queen in our heart of hearts. Enter Billy Ray Cyrus' daughter, Miley Cyrus? That's right, Mr. Achy Breaky Heart's 13-year-old daughter is breaking out with an acting career (she stars in the Disney Channel's "Hannah Montana") and a singing career (she's inked a deal with Hollywood Records, one-time home of the Insane Clown Posse). She is poised to be the breakout star of, well, at least the week. "It really hasn't felt real," Cyrus tells USA Today. "All this hard work I've done my entire life is about to pay off." We love her already! But we're starting to get sick of her. Who's next? We've heard Dakota Fanning has a kid sister.

Back when I was a tween-ager — well, I never was a tween-ager, because back then the word hadn't been invented. Nor were there shows designed for that demographic, not until "The Facts of Life" and "Saved by the Bell." Certainly there weren't whole networks devoted to the under-18 generation, with tailor-made movies and sketch comedies and sitcoms.  Miley Cyrus is ready to follow in the footsteps of Hilary Duff and Raven: The 13-year-old daughter of "Doc" star and "Achy Breaky Heart" singer Billy Ray Cyrus is ready to be the next big thing for the Disney Channel.
Cyrus acts with her dad in "Han-nah Montana," which debuts Friday. She plays 14-year-old Miley Stewart, who lives with her older brother (Jason Earles) and widower father (Cyrus) in Malibu, Calif.
